I am a Registered Play Therapist - Supervisor

as well as a Licensed Independent Social worker.

During my 20 year career in this helping profession I have often utilized

Play Therapy in sessions, but,

“Why Play Therapy?” “What is Play Therapy?” and  “How could it be helpful?”

Play is the natural language of children of all ages and provides a window to their soul like no other.  The power of play allows the play therapist to meet your child or adolescent in their comfort zone and on their level.  Play therapy is not simply the use of dolls or crayons, but is truly an approach integrating art, sand tray play, music, clay, puppetry, drama, dance and creative writing into the therapeutic process.  By doing so, the maximum benefits of therapy can be experienced by those who might not be successful with traditional talk therapy.

Play therapy assists children  and adolescents with

self-expression, self-knowledge, self-actualization, and self-efficacy

while leading towards positive, healing progress in their lives.

To play it out is the most natural self-healing process in childhood.” Erik Erickson

In order to think things through, children need to play things though.”  Jean Piaget

Play is the work of the child.” Maria Montessori

The playing adult steps sideward into another reality; the playing child advances forward to new stages of mastery.” Erik H. Erickson

Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood, for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child’s soul.” Friedrich Froebel (founder of the concept of Kindergarten)

You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.” Plato
